Whatcom Council of Nonprofits

Building relationships, sharing resources, and communicating the vital roles of nonprofit organizations in Whatcom County

WCN's Services

WCN offers a variety of services for the Whatcom County nonprofit sector:
Peer Learning Brown Bag Discussions, Online Nonprofit Calendar, Roundtable Discussions, Weekly Nonprofit eNews, Schmoozefest, and resource sharing.

WCN Peer Learning Brown Bag Discussions

Every second Thursday of the month, explore hot topics in the nonprofit world. Network with other nonprofits. Share best practices. WCN Peer Learning Brown Bag Discussions bring nonprofit staff, volunteers, and board members together with ample time for participants to ask questions, share ideas, and provide expertise. Each 1.5-hour session is facilitated and begins with issue-framing by a guest resource speaker. Discussions are free, open to the public, and are handicapped accessible. Topics include such areas of interest as issues and challenges in leadership, effective advocacy, team building, fundraising and more. Always check WCN's Events page to confirm this month's discussion topic, date, time and location.

WCN eNews

Be the first to receive information! Every Wednesday, WCN emails a free electronic newsletter serving as Whatcom County's one-stop source of the freshest and most up-to-date information on nonprofit events, education and training, local nonprofit job listings, recognitions and awards, and resource sharing opportunities. Subscribe to the eNews by completing the form on our Contact Us page. To submit information to post, please follow the WCN Submission Guidelines. Deadline for submission of events is Wednesday at 10 a.m.

WCN Schmoozefest

Join in the fun! Twice a year (February and July), nonprofit staff, board members, volunteers, and nonprofit supporters gather to celebrate their connections, network, share ideas, and have fun! For the next event, visit WCN's Events page.

WCN Special-Interest Roundtables

WCN Special-Interest Roundtables provide in-depth information sharing and continuing conversations for nonprofit professionals. Each Roundtable has its own flavor and structure, so check with the listed coordinator for more information.

  • Executive Directors Roundtable: 3:00-5:00p.m. First Tuesday of the month. This is a confidential, limited-sized roundtable, which provides a forum for EDs in diverse organizations to share resources and learn from others' experiences. The first WCN ED Roundtable is currently capped at nine members and there is a waiting list. If there is enough interest in forming a second WCN ED Roundtable, the first group would be happy to share its experience of how it developed group agreements and process. For more information, contact the coordinator, Moonwater, Executive Director, Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center.
  • Social Media Roundtable: 3:00-4:30 p.m. Third Tuesday of the month at the Public Market, 1530 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham. Are you utilizing Web 2.0 platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to promote your organization and engage with the community? Join this casual, drop-in monthly special-interest gathering of nonprofit Web 2.0 experimentialists. Converse with other nonprofits using these tools, share best practices, discuss strategies and more. Bring your laptops, smartphones and any other gadget you can't live without. Free wifi; handicap accessible. For more information, contact the coordinator, Javier Flores, WhatcomCounts.org Coordinator, Whatcom Coalition for Healthy Communities.
