Events & Recognition for Nonprofits

WCN provides this space to share nonprofit events such as a career fairs, expos, or community forums and recognitions and awards of our area's nonprofits.

Submit detailed event announcements that benefit the entire nonprofit sector or nonprofit recognitions and awards (those that represent an entire nonprofit, not individual awards or recognitions). Please follow the WCN Submission Guidelines for formatting. 

WCN Nonprofit Scheduling Calendar: Post all nonprofit events (including fundraisers, outreach events, volunteer days, etc.) that benefit specific nonprofits.

GREEN DRINKS BELLINGHAM
5:00-7:00 p.m., first Wednesday of every month. 
Join RE Sources every month to connect with other green thinkers, movers and shakers. This is an excellent opportunity for those in the nonprofit sector to build connections. Green Drinks is an organic networking session that started in London, England and has since caught fire around the world. FMI: 360-733-8307 or www.greendrinks.org or www.re-sources.org.

WHATCOM BUSINESS SPEAKER SERIES
This event is the newest program of the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Each month, BWCCI will feature speakers on important, timely information to help people, organizations, and businesses be better prepared for the future. The speaker series will be held from noon to 1:30 on the second Wednesday of the month at the Bellingham Country Club, 3729 Meridian Street, Bellingham. Cost is $20. The event on January 13, 2010 will host Mayor Dan Pike with the State of the City address providing important information on the budget, city programs, and what the business community can expect from his administration in 2010. RECOGNITIONS

FIVE NONPROFITS TO SHARE IN PROCEEDS FROM WCAR FUNDRAISER
The Whatcom County Association of Realtor's Philanthropy Committee has chosen five organizations to share equally in the proceeds from a fundraiser they are holding next month. These organizations were chosen from a survey of their membership and are: DVSAS, Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County, Lydia Place, Junior Achievement, and Bellingham/Whatcom County Food Bank. COMMUNITY FOOD CO-OP PRESENTS FARM FUND 2010 GRANTS
The Community Food Co-op presented the following Farm Fund 2010 grants and loans to seven  recipients: Osprey Hill Farm, Local Food Works, Whatcom Grain Project (Growing Washington), Sumas River Farm, The Food Bank Farm, the Bellingham Urban Garden Syndicate, and Tailwinds Farm.  The Community Food Co-op's Farm Fund receives generous matching funds from the Sustainable Whatcom Fund of the Whatcom Community Foundation. This new revolving loan fund for local farms was created in 2010 with two crucial needs identified: to stimulate the demand for local products so sustainable farming grows as a vital part of Whatcom County's economy and to increase the supply of local food by supporting new and existing farms to build their businesses and land base. NORTHWEST ECONOMIC COUNCIL FOUNDATION GETS $5,000 GRANT
Wells Fargo Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Northwest Economic Council Foundation.  This grant will be used to support rural area efforts to develop a Regional Economic Strategy.  The Regional Economic Strategy will be a communication tool that will answer the questions: Where are we now? Where do we want to be? How will we get there?  This tool will identify key economic development projects, as well as potential funding sources, that will help our rural areas to achieve their goals and objectives.
